View Full Version : TR4TS hangs during sync

I originally posted this is the TimeReporter forum, but it should probably go here....

I'm a new user trying to get the product to work for the first time...

After installation, sync works correctly for the very first time, when downloading client names and such to the Palm. Once data is entered into the Palm and an attempt is made to sync, I have problems.

1. Palm displays Synchronizing TR4TS

2. Palm displays another message too quick to read; I can read the word Iambic but not the rest...

3. Palm displays Synchronizing TR4TS and hangs. Canceling on either the Palm or the PC causes the graphic to change to Canceling, but cancel never completes. I have let this sync run overnight in order to see if it would ever complete and it does not finish.

4. I kill and then restart hotsync.exe on the PC. Eventually the Palm ends sync with an error message. There is no updated logfile to work with on the PC.

5. I check TimeSlips; the data has been copied from the Palm to the application

6. I check the Palm, the entry is gone from TR4TS; so far so good.

7. I place another entry into the Palm. After I select Done, the entry does NOT display in the TR4TS window; apparently something is corrupted in the Palm. I must delete and reload the TR4TS application in the Palm to get it back. At this point, the cycle repeats.

I have verified that the DLLs are current and have reinstalled TimeSlips, TimeReporter, and the Palm Desktop

Info: Palm is Tungsten T5 with Palm Tungsten T5 update applied, TimeSlips 2005, Windows SP SP2 on the desktop. I am using PumaTech Intellisync to sync Outlook and the Palm desktop to sync the rest.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Larry

I had the same problem and had to do a hard reset on my new Sprint PCS Palm Treo 650. No one seems to be able to help. What is the answer?

Iambic has posted a new build of TimeReporter for TimeSlips on their web site. On my test system, it seems to have resolved the problem; I'll be putting it on a live system today.

That's the good news, now for the bad... I opened this issue some time back and also opened up a trouble ticket with Iambic. I received no feedback from them when the problem was resolved. I just happened to check to see if there was a new build on the web site and tried it out.

Because tech support works on e-mail only, they soon simply stopped replying to me. They didn't say they had duplicated the problem, they didn't admit there was a bug, they just ignored me and left me out on my own. I'm glad the problem is resolved, but this attitude toward customers really leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Thank you! I'll check it out. When I called Best Software yesterday, they said that I was the second person in two days to call on this. I think the problem is just beginning to surface.

I'd be grateful if you would let me know if it worked ok for you...

I'm having the same problem as this recent post-- hangs during Hotsync; cancelling Hotsync does nothing but show a perpetual cancelling message, and I have to ctrl-alt-del the Hotsync to escape. Did anyone find a good solution?

I still haven't resolved the problem. I don't know how to download a new "build" and the technical support has been horrible. I travel a lot, and really wanted to use the program, but so far no luck. The TAL for Peachtree is also not working right and I've spent $1000 on technical consultants who still haven't resolved the issue. ANYONE who has solved this problem who can share the solution will be most appreciated!

Too early to be sure, but downloading and (re)installing the latest version (yesterday) seemed to help-- no lock-up today. I thought I already had the latest from all I could see on the Web site, but doing this took me from Build 140 to 141 (of Version 3.4).

Today I also got a survey from Iambic tech support asking how well I liked their response to this question which I had submitted via the Web site on 4/1. Unfortunately, they have never responded, so my answer was easy.

Could you please post the steps to do this?

I wish I could remember the steps, but didn't take notes so I'm afraid this will be vague: Essentially, I followed the links (I think went to the Iambic site, clicked on Palm OS, then on TimeReporter for Timeslips, then clicked download, but I'm not sure at what stage I entered my ID and password-- or whether it remembered me on its own). Once downloaded, I went into the folder where I saved it. I think I hit a snag when the program did not fully unzip before installation, and gave the impression it was installing when it wasn't. Trial and error did the trick eventually. Again, sorry so sketchy, but hope that helps.

I bought Timereporter in 2007 and have never been able to work. It always got hung up while syncing as other describe below. I finally saw this forum which describes a lot of other people having the same problem. Did the company or anyone else ever solve the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Im trying to sync a Reunion file about 12 MB in size to my Touch. It starts then hangs in "getting info" after about 1/4th complete and does not move for an hour or more. A file of size 2 MB transfers ok.
