View Full Version : Beta Program

Hello everyone,

Our commitment to providing useable software that works is, in large part, attainable due to the consistent feedback and suggestions of our customers. For this reason, iambic is pleased to introduce our new Public Beta Program in order to further improve the quality and reliability of our titles, and to provide our customers with top-of-the-line applications that truly benefit handheld users.

From time to time, we may call on our users to test pre-release beta versions of our new products posted in iambic forums. These betas will be available in subforums called "Beta" under each product category.

For example, you might find a beta for Bump Attack Pinball in the beta subforum of the Bump Attack Pinball forum. During the period the beta is available, you will be able to download the application from iambic forums.

Guidelines:

1. The use of beta software is AT YOUR OWN RISK. Although the builds we'll post have been tested, iambic assumes no responsibility in the case of device reset (either soft or hard), data loss, data corruption, etc.

2. Support for beta software will be limited to this forum in the proper beta subforum.

3. To avoid mixing bugs related to the official versions with those from beta versions, please post reports regarding bugs relating to the beta version in the same beta subforum.

4. Pre-release beta software should not be treated as evaluation software. While beta versions do provide a look at the direction the product is taking, the very nature of the betas implies that the
software is incomplete.

5. If you are starting a new thread, make sure to specify the build number in the title.

6. Do not post feature requests as bugs. Instead, please use the proper "Feature Requests" forum section available for each product. We are primarily interested in receiving bug reports on the beta versions of our software.

7. When reporting a bug, make sure to also specify the following information: the device and operating system you are using, eventual hacks installed, and total amount of free memory available on your device. In the description, please try to be concise and write the exact operations you performed that
led to the issue.

8. If you have additional information (files, screenshots or anything else you think might be useful), feel free to add them as attachments to your posting.

9. Any post referring to a beta in another section will not be approved by our moderators.

10. Do not repost or redistribute beta versions located on this site.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping to ensure the excellence and dependability of iambic software.

We look forward to receive your comments and feedback.

Effective immediately, during all public and private beta activities we'll give away free copies of the software in beta to any tester that will:

- actively participate in the beta testing process and post meaningful comments
- report at least 4 unique reproduceable bugs
- fully detail at least 2 new features

Please note that all 3 points above need to be met to qualify for the free copy.

Just asking for clarification.

Hi,

Do you mean that the beta tester will get a free copy of the software once it exits beta?

Yes, if he or she meets what I've mentioned in my previous post.

Hello Jim,

it means that we'll reward beta testers that will actively help our development team in tracking down and fixing any bug that shows up during the beta period.

We started this experience with the Agendus for Windows beta program, and it proved successful. About 25 beta testers were rewarded with a free copy of the software.

I was asking for clarification on the requirement:

"fully detail at least 2 new features"

What exactly are you looking for and where do we send it?

Hi Jim,

I'm simply looking for bug reports that are clear and detailed, so that our engineers are able to quickly address the problem :)

The correct place where to post bug reports is the BetaProgram forum.

I am willing to do beta test on AGENDUS, have done betas before on other products for Palm. I use Agendus all the time and am very familiar with its plusses and minuses.

Hi I would like to test the new version of Agendus 6.0, I have been a support of Agendus since it was called Action Names, I first usered this software when I worked for the company called The Palmtop Shopin Toronto, Canada.

I now have my own company called PDA in Hand our website (http://www.pdainhand.com).

Brett, you can get it in the Agendus > Beta Program forum

Have gotten two FATAL ALERTS so far, both when going from an alert to the item, the most resent error said "Emul 68k main c line 403, illegal instruction OOFF at Address 00108CD6

This is a Clie NX70

Now, in terms of features, you STILL have not corrected the font problem in the Contact detail view. No matter what font you select for Agendus, the font in the contact detail view is always the same. On the high res device, that standard font is very thin and no way to read it in a car, for example. You need to be able to select a bolder font. I've been complaining about this same thing for nine months, maybe. I would have thought in a majour re-write it would have been addressed.

Otherwise, the new interface is quite clear and user friendly.

More, later.

Hello,

please note that this forum is not the correct one where to discuss about product specific matters.

In case of Agendus for Palm OS, please see upgrade price and details here:

Using a Treo 300; in the weekly view the font of the date (lower right hand corner of the day) is clipped across the top.

Just figured out why, using a Font Hack and when I switch to Tall fonts get the clipping effect, only where the day/date is in the lower right hand corner.

FYI ..... no big deal

fully detail at least 2 new features - What do you mean by this?
-Should I suggest two new feature that I would like, or
-Should I discuss the new features (as in Agendus 6) -Some are really cool

Hi,

In general, active participation in the beta forum has good chances to be rewarded by the free copy. This regardless of where the participation is focused on.

Discussing about features is good, posting new, meaningful and original feature requests is good, reporting a bug (making sure that the same bug has not been reported yet) is good.

Basically what we are trying to do is to reward the help of the forum community.

Hi Guys:

Just wanted to thank you for the opportunity to try out the beta program. I've used you guys for several replacements on my Clie, and have LOVED them all. Ironically, I visited the site to see if there was something else offered in relation to the "to-do" feature and when I didn't see anything, I decided to download the upgrade (beta) to Agendus, and found precisely what I need. I will definitely let you guys know if I encounter any problems.

Hi, are you all planning to impliment some of the major changes to the TO DO section that have been posted? I find it to be of limited use, as you can't really edit the to do item or change the alarms, date, etc. Maybe I don't understand its purpose properly. The new day view (LIST) is really great now, improved since earlier beta versions. Is there a reason you shade the background of contact categories by a colour, rather than changing the colour of the font itself as is done in the desktop version?

Hi there,

thanks a lot for the free copy of TimeReporter 4.0. Beta-Testing was kind of fun, although it took a good amount of my time to test and to post threads and reply to threads. It was still interesting and it was good to find out, that the beta-testers were taken seriously. You even changed some features and added other features after mentioned from the beta-community.

This will programm will sure enhance the customer relationship. Well, I hope all the replies and comments on the latest beta-programm (Agendus 6.0) will come to a good end too. At the moment we, the users are still waiting for a lot of bugs and requests to be solved. But still, the iambic beta program is a good way, keep moving!!

Yes, an email with URLs for the messages I'd posted, as instructed.

As I said above, though, I didn't get any response so I've bought the upgrade. $9 or so isn't worth the hassle to me.

iambic software is good, very good, in fact, but sometimes you (iambic) are a bit over-protective and you can sometimes come over as unresponsive or lacking customer care. In some areas you respond brilliantly, less in others. Based on my dealings a couple years ago, I half expected not to get a free upgrade, so I wasn't surprised when I didn't get any reply.

A better approach would have been to keep track of the beta testers and to pro-actively email them to get their Palm name. Even better would be to limit testers to those people who are already registered with the existing version, then you could issue them with the new code during testing and avoid any hassle later on.

Just my $0.02, though there are other users posting to BBS and forums with less friendly feelings towards iambic.

Hello Steve,

Unfortunately due to the very high volume of postings during the beta program we haven't been able to track the beta testers as we were planning to. We are working on a better solution for the next "high volume posts" beta program.

I've contacted you via email to quickly solve this Agendus free code issue :)

Looking forward to assign you this little "thank you" for your hard work in testing Agendus.

I've been a longtime customer, fan, and avid user of Agendus since the ol' Action Names days, making it a daily tool to "access my life" as it were on my Palm devices.

Well, since January, I needed a cell phone, and took the plunge (or is that "leap"?) to a non-Palm device: The T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition, made by HTC. I've got to say that I'm quite pleased with my recent choice (Please, I'm definitely not trying to start a "Palm vs. PPC" discussion here, believe me!:bulb: )....

...EXCEPT, there is still no iambic Agendus for Pocket PC in existence! That would sure make the world a better place! But my question is: How can I be sure to be included as a beta tester when that beta program starts to roll (notice I didn't say, "if"! ;) )???

Any ETA on that known now since the FAQ was last updated?

Keep up the great work, iambic!

I heard a rumour that Iambic is developing a version of Agendus for the Symbian platform which will run on the SE P800. If this is true then I am very happy - can you confirm? The best way. You might participate in this forums and report your findings. We'll help you understand the functionality in case it's an user error, or we'll address the issue in case it's an application error or incorrect behaviour.
