View Full Version : Ability to Attach Files

I have just installed the Iambic Mail 3.0 beta. I am extremely interested (the need has become critical) in being able to send attachments in my emails, and was therefore excited to see the ability included in the new version of Iambic Mail. Unfortunately I do not see the button for adding an attachment when composing a new email.

Am I to understand that I need a Palm with VFS and expansion card support in order to add attachments to my emails (I use a Palm IIIc.). Note that I simply want to send Fastwriter and Tinysheet attachments with emails hotsynched back to my desktop computer, not send them wirelessly. (I do in fact use Iambic Mail wirelessly, but by dialing in to my organizations RAS server and then doing a network hotsynch).

My need to send attachments is critical. If the new Iambic Mail is not going to allow for this with my current hardware I will be forced to go with a competing product. I have been evaluating the new mail service from Docs to Go and am very impressed, but would rather not pay for the subscription service they are offering, especially if I can continue with the network hotsynch method that I currently use with Iambic Mail. Switching email clients also requires that I switch office suite as well, and I am happy with the Iambic Office product I now own (although FastWriter could use some work! More on that in another forum).

I look forward to your response. The beta looks very promising if the above issue can be resolved.

Hi,

For wireless sending and recieving of attachments VFS (SD/MMC or Memory stick capability and media) is required.

For recieving of MS Word and Excel files via synchronization, FastWriter and TinySheet are required.

But can you SEND Word and Excel files via synchronization? I have TinySheet and FastWriter and want to be able to send files through synchronization and have them translated back to Word and Excel before sending.

The capability to send TinySheet and FastWriter files wirelessly is great but assumes the recipient is A) using a Palm and B) uses Iambic Office

Yes, you can send attachments via conduit. But to do this you will need iambic TinySheet and FastWriter. My suggestion is to check out iambic Office at:

If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to give another post.

Thank You,

Hi there,

I am very encounraged to hear that you can send attachments via synchronization with Iambic Mail 3.0. As b_badger wrote:

I don't see how to do it though. I have TinySheet and FastWriter installed, but I don't see the paperclip icon for attaching files when I compose a new email.

Am I doing something wrong?

With Iambic mail is it possible :

To send and receive emails with Word attachments
via a GSM connection?

To read Word attachments : I need Fastwriter?
WorsToGo or Wordsmiyh are compatible???

To send Word attachements : They have to be created with Fastwriter exlusive???

Where I can find the beta version to test it

There are basically two types of attachment support
a) wireless attachment support
b) synchronization attachment support

here are the differences

a) wireless attachment support means sent directly to and from the Palm devices via wired modem, wireless modem, or GSM phone (via IR or Bluetooth)

In this scenario when mail downloaded directly from your mail server has attachments those attachments are put on your VFS card (SD or Memorystick).

Requirements for this kind of attachment support are a VFS enabled Palm device and modem or compatible cell phone.

Note: These attachments were not run through the conduit and most likely not viewable on your Palm though they can be attached to mails sent from the Palm.

b) synchronization attachment support

If FastWriter or TinySheet are installed then any attachments in MS Word or MS Excel format on messages downloaded from your Windows PC email client are synchronized to your Palm and can be viewed, edit and attached to outgoing messages.

Requirements for this kind of attachment support are FastWriter for MS Word file types and TinySheet for MS Excel file types.

So Read and send attachments via wireless connection is not possible.

So with Iambic mail IF you don"t have a PC with Soft of synchronisation there is no possibility to read and send word attachments.

My question is simply : Read and send word attachments . I am working without PC so without
synchronisation.
(No problem for my backup : on MS).

If I receive a mail with word attachments via a wireless connection, Normaly I want to read this
attachment on the palm.

So you confirm me that is not possible with your
product. You always need to have a PC near you.

Yes, correct. Attachments received wirelessly (not through conduit) can not be opened on the palm. Nor can files created on the palm be read directly by a PC.

In order for files to be translated between Palm and PC a conduit must be used to convert the files, meaning synchronization must take place.

I guess my original problem now comes under the category of bug report. As MonsterCrash wrote:

I have TinySheet and FastWriter installed (registered versions) on a Palm IIIc. I can't find a way of attaching a file to a new outgoing email. Shouldn't there be a small paperclip icon at the bottom of the email composition screen that allows the attaching of TinySheet and FastWriter files?
