View Full Version : Icon blank when I override the category default

I am getting buggy icon behavior when I create a meeting, and the category for that meeting has a default icon, and I override that default icon.
1. I create a meeting in the category 'Work.'
2. The category 'Work' for me has a default icon as defined in Agendus Preferences/Meeting Icon Defaults
3. I override the default icon for that category with a differnet icon.
4. The buggy behavior is that no icon shows up at all for that meeting. If I go to the Edit Meeting screen, and change the icon, that change is not reflected in the Calendar view of the meeting.
5. If I edit the icon for the meeting in the Edit Meeting screen to reflect the default icon for that category, it still doesn't show up in the calendar screen, although it seems to take in the edit screen.
Thanks!

Are you using PDE or OE?
It's working correctly here in PDE - I create a meeting with a category that has an icon, change the icon to something else, create the meeting. The icon is there. I can change back to default icon, or any other icon, and the icon shows.

I can't reproduce this in either version.
Is it possible you have a Vivid Agenda rule set up for the particular text in your meeting, and this rule has NO ICON assigned to it?

Thank you for the diligent follow-up.
I'm using Agendus for Windows - Palm Desktop Edition.
I did some more testing, and I can re-create this problem, but only under the exact circumstance in which it happened earlier today. This only happens when I assign a particular contact to a meeting. This contact is a customer with whom I had a 10 AM call this morning. I can't see anything different about this particular contact's record. It doesn't happen with other contact records of a similar nature - that is, if I set up a meeting with a contact having the same contact category.
When I assign a different contact to the meeting, this problem with the disappearing icon goes away.
I could show you the problem on my desktop if you are able to use Macromedia Breeze to view other desktops - I have an account with them.
It's a weird problem, eh?

Very wierd. Try recreating the contact EXCATLY as you have it, and delete the other.
Be sure the name is EXACTLY the same, or the contact History could be affected.

Michael,
This is what I posted about early this morning. I know with all the posts you have to read, it is impossible to get to everything. So when I saw this thread, I decided to chime in.
I have AGOE and I just tried to change the default icon for a category to another icon and it is blank. No matter what icon choice I make, it continues to stay blank. This is for a task

I just realized something when trying to reproduce this. Is it possible the Tasks/Meetings that this is happening to have an alarm attached.
Please confirm yes or no.
I have discovered some icon issues when an alarm is associated with an item.

Hi Michael,
No alarms were attached in my situation. Another variation just occurred. When I changed the task date, that icon was lost. Again, no alarm attached.

Hmm. I'm not losing icons when changing dates.
We'll continue to investigate. If you can produce any specific or unique steps that may help, please let us know.

Michael,
After a clean install of AGW yesterday (because of the contacts grab bar issue!) when I went to change some of meeting icons, some of them wouldn't take. I thought it was because I was using a different icon than the default category icon, but it worked on some. What was driving me crazy was Valentine's Day - no matter how many times I deleted and recreated the event, I couldn't get an icon. It was just about the only one without any contact information, history, etc., attached.
Finally, in desperation I looked at Vivid Agenda (which I had NOT activated or used!) and saw that there was a "valentine" listing. I deleted it, and sure enough - Valentine's Day would now accept the icon I chose. Went through VA and deleted EVERY instance that I could possibly use elsewhere, and all the icon gremlins disappeared.

I'm having the same problem. I'm using PDE. I did some testing & it looks like whenever I create a meeting or task that has a note associated with it the icon will be blank and unchangeable. If I create a meeting/task without a note, the icon shows up fine. If I add the note after I've created the meeting/task, for a meeting the icon will be replaced by the note icon and for a task the icon will just disappear. As long as I don't use the note field, the icon works fine for both the meetings and tasks.

Did you try going to Vivid Agenda and deleting all the words that are used in your notes?

Thanks Serendip! That did the trick! I deleted every rule in the Vivid Agenda & now all my icons are working properly.

This is odd, but reproduceable. I've reported for the engineers to take a look at the VA behavior.
Thanks.

I have the same issue with Tasks. The funny thing is if I set the task's category to unfiled and then chose another category the icon appears, but at other times it still doesn't. I tried different things to see what is happening, but its seems sporadic.
Deleted the vivid text seems to be working now.

Hi Resa,
Thanks, that is exactly what was happening in my situation. I did what you suggested and everything is fine now. Since I hardly ever use Vivid Agenda, I had completely forgotten about it.

You're all welcome!
I'm just glad we figured this out - not being able to find the pattern was truly driving me crazy. :D

Can some others please reproduce this. I'm unable to. Regardless of the VA rules.
Please provide simple 1, 2, 3 steps leading up to not being able to use a particular icon.

Michael,
How did this go from reproduceable to not being reproduceable?
Thanks.

Sorry for the confusion. With me it was an alarm issue, and not a VA issue. So I'm not sure now.

Update:
I have reproduced it. Yeah!
Using these steps:
1. In prefs, assign an icon to a Task Category
2. Look in VA, and make note of a text string on one of the pre-installed rules (notice, no icons present on rules)
3. Create a Task that includes the exact text string you saw in VA
4. When creating the Task, assign the category which you assigned an icon to earlier
5. Save the Task
Result: No Icon appears on the task
Furthermore, if you open the task and try to manually try to add an icon, after saving the icon is not present.
If you're doing something different, let me know so I can try.

YAYAY!! You got it exactly right!
Note: none of us had created VA rules, it was from the default rules. In my case, I hadn't activated or ever used VA, but otherwise, that's exactly it!
Thanks!!

Whew! I need to rest after that one. Glad we figured it out.
