View Full Version : Agendus for Outlook - FwdDelete and Security Setting (Separate issues)

Just noticed two separate issues in the recent build. I am using Build 1376 - Agendus for Outlook.

1. I was typing an email and went to use the Delete button (Not the standard BackSpace key but the Forward Delete Button) and noticed that it is not operative now. I assume that because the new Agendus "tweaks" the email window to add the new toolbar it is Agendus not allowing the Delete button to function.

2. I was getting a Security warning popup box along the lines of
"Outlook has noticed another program trying to access data from Outlook. If this is not of your doing you should deny it as it could be a virus." It was popping up each time I went to make a new email until I realized I was only giving Agendus access for 10 minutes and could unclick the box to allow Agendus access all the time. Not sure if this is something that can be changed inside the Agendus builds so people aren't running into this message each time or if this is something to warn people about in the manual or install notes.

Great update so far - looks like a lot of work has been done to clean up a bunch of the normal issues before you kicked out the beta. Last couple betas I helped with on Agendus had some nasty ones lurking as the Beta started. At least for me I am not seeing them. Hopefully won't run into any at all.

Thanks.

I'm not sure exactly what dialog you're referring to, and which Delete button. Are you talking about a button in the Outlook Toolbar or a button on the keyboard. I'm not sure what Forward Delete Button is.

Is this error message a Windows error message, a Virus Protection error message, a Firewall error message or an Outlook error message?

Check your Virus protection & Firewall settings to make sure Agendus is an allowed program.

Thanks for the kind words, and for your loyalty.

I was replying to an email I had received. I pressed the reply to all button and the window then opened for me to create my email. I am using Agendus entry/edit dialogs not Outlook (Box is unchecked in the Prefs). The delete key I am talking about is the delete key directly to the right of my "Enter" button on a "standard" 105 key keyboard. The delete button in question deletes the character to the right of the cursor on the screen normally. Inside the email box it would not work in a couple of emails.

Of course I just tried it as I was replying to you and I am not able to reproduce it now. Not sure what happened. But there is the info on which key I was talking about.

This was an Outlook error message - or appeared to be. Check the screenshot I took of the box when it popped up again as I was trying to reply to an email.

I have been using Agendus for almost two years (I think) and a couple of versions. I have never had a security dialog open asking me if I should allow the program to access my data. In fact I have never seen this dialog before today when I loaded the Agendus Beta. I am assuming that there is a link and that Outlook is not recognizing something that Agendus is doing.

Sorry I can't be of more help here but I think I am not the only one reporting this box. This one is reproducable as I saw it two or three times while working on this reply as I did other work. It popped up each time I tried to reply to an email.

To remedy this please do the following:

Open My computer and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\

There you'll see a folder named 10. Delete it to the Recycle Bin. Do not permanently delete until you successfully can install Agendus.

Ok. Thanks for the clarification.

What version of Outlook are you using? (if you mentioned earlier, I didn't see it)

Try modifying some of the applicable Security settings in Outlook at Tools-->Options-->Security

Let me know if it's still happening and your Outlook version, and I'll try to reproduce.

Outlook 2000 SP-3 Currently not on Exchange but will be moving that way in the next couple of months.

I see I am not the only one to have this issue. It appears to be an issue with Outlook 2000 but has begun popping up with the new beta.

I will keep watching the Agendus Beta board to see if anyone comes up with a fix or see what happens with future builds.

I agree with others though - it was not an issue (Had never seen this window before) until I loaded the Beta. Any recommendations of which Security setting I might try tweaking that would be involved with this issue?

There are a couple of bandaid solutions. But ultimately it's a programmer's problem.

A couple of solutions mentioned are CDO (http://www.outlookcode.com/d/cdo.htm)(Colab. Data Objects) and using Redemption/RDO (http://www.dimastr.com/redemption/).

Don't know why I don't get the pop-up. I know I did in the past from some other sync program, maybe PocketMirror. So maybe I did a fix before.

You guys have started to ignore my earlier posts regarding the security popup from Outlook. Please have a look at my post: http://support.iambic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20553

as it contains the problem, and a work-around solution/software. But bottom line is that Iambic introduced something to cause this in 4.x beta.

No Dan. No one is ignoring your other thread. Both Mike and I have responded there. Now it's got to go up the line to the developers. I considered merging these two threads but decided not to.

My last post here basically confirmed your findings. There are fixes, but it's an app issue that has been introduced with this beta. And it is a beta. We're here to find these kind of issues and report them.

Problem is that it may have to be reproduced in order to fix it. It doesn't happen to me - why not? The developers need a specific repeatable scenario in order to track things down. Now it could be they already know what the problem is - we won't know 'til the next beta release.

Thanks for bringing this up in the first place.

Cool Conor - thanks.

The tool I mentioned in the other thread does dump some trace data (part of which I included in the other thread). If you need me to run it again for more info, let me know. I suspect your developers will be somewhat familiar with the issue - perhaps from replacing one of msoft's DLLs, or similiar.

I'm a professional developer as well, and familiar with the error, though I don't know the specifics of what changed to cause it - sorry.
