Thanks, adriano, for the first CTP build. I went to this sticky thread
http://support.iambic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26406,
downloaded the attachments and installed them on my WM2003SE Pocket PC Phone right away.
Unfortunately, I am stuck at the 'Agendus' is not a valid Pocket PC screen and can't go any further :(
Any suggestion?
Here's my detailed info:
Agendus for Windows Mobile Pocket PC Professional Edition

- ASUS P505 Pocket PC Phone (Pocket PC 2003 SE)
- Intel PXA270 CPU @ 400 MHz

Does Agendus for Windows Mobile support WM2003? Is it built only for WM5 devices? If this is the case, then I'd be soooo sad.

The main release page states WM5 and above only ! What a bummer

Thanks for pointing this out, Summit. I checked
http://www.iambic.com/agenduspro/wmppc/whatsnew.asp?cnt=sysreq
and found what you said.
iambic's decision not to support WM2003 devices is a sad news. I doubt if any specific features of WM5 are necessary -- because even Pocket Informant which is one of the key players in this market still supports WM2003 in its latest 2007 version.
adriano, would you think twice about this? You're gonna lose a large segment of customers who're still loyal to their WM2003 devices.

I agree - my Dell Axim X50 was just smiling at the thought of being able to do things like the Treo 650 !!

The .exe installer is the windows pc installer (not the ppc installer) which will deploy the app (including the ppc .exe file) to your device if connected to active sync. The CAB is the ppc installer, which should be placed on the device, via Active Sync->Explore, then launched from the device.

Hi michael,
After almost a year switching from Palm OS to Windows Mobile world, I'm now quite a power user. The .cab installed just fine on my Pocket PC. It just doesn't run. As a casual Windows Mobile developer, I would guess it has something to do with you configuring/compiling/linking the EXE file just to be run on WM5 devices; therefore it fails to run to WM2003 devices.
As I wrote earlier on this thread, do you really need to call WM5-specific APIs? Can't you really support WM2003 devices? You will lose quite a large segment of customers by this decision.

The thing is that Microsoft has changed PIM data storage format in WM5, moreover, it's even using different api to access databases. And we cannot use POOM (which is commong for PPC2003 and WM5) as it's way too slow. Therefore in given time constrains we had no other choice then to support only one of platforms, so we decided to support WM5. I can assure you that if demand for PPC 2003 will be high we'll support it too. Right now we are just starting, it's very early beta, and we are going to enhance it.

Thanks for the info, vladimir. I am a proud owner of Agendus Pro on the Palm OS and I am quite tempted to pay you again for the Windows Mobile version. Unfortunately, I am using a WM2003 device and it still serves me well. There's no significant need for me to invest in another WM5 device.

By the way, how do you plan to measure the demand for a WM2003 version :D ?

thitiv,
I understand your point -- unfortunately it often comes down to make though choices... we could add support for wm2003, or invest that same time in creating the wm5 smartphone edition. Looking to the future of wm devices, more and more users are likely to migrate to wm5, possibly wm5 smartphone.
That said, as time allows depending on how quickly will be able to solve the wm5 related issues, come out with the wm5 smartphone edition, we might then decide to look back and add support for ppc 2003 as well.
As a general rule we decided to support wm5 and above on all windows mobile product line and left out wm2003 in order to keep under control tech support issues -- given the fact that already it really means supporting two rather different platforms (ppc and smartphone).
Thank you for your patience, and understanding

Agreed. I was hoping to see what all of the Agendus hype (deserved or not) was all about. Was the heavyweight Palm developer going to swing into town and show all of those lame Pocket PC developers what *real* development was all about (to paraphrase a forum participant)? I had my doubts that anyone new to PPC would be able to do better at the underlying PPC stuff (after all, the folks at WebIS and Developer One have been deep into it for several years), but hey, maybe there'd be some nice UI improvements. I was curious, at least.
Sadly, it doesn't look like it will come to pass, as I own an iPaq 2200 (e.g. PPC2003) that's working just fine, and PocketInformant or AgendaFusion work well on it still.
Oh well,
Jeff

are you still going to have your PPC2003 ipaq a year from now? I'd say possible -- but chances are you might have moved to a wm5 (or above) ppc phone or smartphone... and Agendus will be there :)

I am sitting here reading all this and drooling...
I have a number of PPCs and was waiting eagerly for the first beta release. But, alas, my only WM5 device is my "daily use" device - a Cingular 8125. All others are previous OS versions. I have everything from the original WinCE to WM2003SE on my various devices. But WM5 is only on the 8125.
And since I use the 8125, in particular the PIM data, intensely on a daily basis, I can't afford to install a raw beta on this device. So I'm going to have to wait a bit, till a more stable release is available.
Till then, I am sitting here weeping... Aarrgghhh!

Ah well, that's the question, isn't it? If it's still working fine, then I will probably have it. If not, then sure, I will be looking at Agendus (and PI and AF too).
By the way, I completely understand not supporting older devices. I'm a software dev. too (Windows desktop mainly), and we have to orphan older OS versions as well. I think we have finally dropped support for Win '98 and ME for our desktop products, yippee!
So if I showed any disappointment, it's just at not getting a new software toy to play with for Christmas :), not at your development efforts, for which I wish all good luck.
