View Full Version : Can not sync Vehicle Manager on Blackjack

I have not been able to sync my blackjack. I have tried several times, I followed the install instruction, I have removed, reinstalled, reset.. everything that I can think of but I can not get the data to sync.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am using the trial version; I have found that I really need to fully test any WM5 Smartphone apps before purchasing. (I have been burned)
I like the program except that I can not get it to sync.

When I go into Activesync and go to tool options, I see a Vehicle manager icon, I can't do anything with the settings.

Any suggestions?

Ok, please try this:
1. Disconnect your device from Active Sync
2. Close ActiveSync
3. Uninstall the PC app
4. Reinstall it
5. Just to be extra safe install the .exe of the handheld app too to make sure everything that's necessary gets deployed.

Same problem here. Tried your steps but it didn't work. Additionally, the installation added an iambic store program to my start menu on the BlackJack and I can't uninstall it. I don't want that program on my device, and so because of the buggy installation and the installation of additional software that I didn't request, I am uninstalling this program.

Too bad, really. I used this software many years ago and loved it. Maybe if the installation issues get fixed and you don't force the iambic store software to be installed, then I will look at it again. Otherwise, forget it.

I'm having the same problem. I have a Cingular 2125 with WM5. i've uninstalled and reinstalled both apps multiple times. i am still unable to sync the application.

I also concur with the frustration of having the Iambic store icon installed on my device. I can understand this for freeware, but not for this.

Are there any other steps I can take to get this to sync?

RE: iambic Store -- we have just refreshed all our windows mobile installers and effective... now... they don't carry the link to our mobilestore anymore.

In regards to the activesync issue, I'll let Michael carry on his troubleshooting with you.

Ditto to this, wholeheartedly. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the new build and the iambic Mobile Store has indeed been removed. Thank you for this.

As for the syncing....

I, too, cannot get my Cingular 2125 to sync with the desktop. Yesterday I was running the previous Two Peaks version with no problems whatsoever. I installed this new version 3.3 and now it does not sync. Here is what I have tried:

1. Uninstalled both the desktop and mobilie versions. Then, reinstalled the desktop version and then the mobile version. No sync.

2. Uninstalled both the desktop and mobilie versions, and then uninstalled Activesyc. Then, reinstalled Activesync and then the desktop version and mobile versions. No sync.

3. Delete mobile device from Activesync and then recreate the connection. No sync. This step does give an error popup on the first attempted sync with the title "Vehicle Manager Synchronization Error" and message "Error while downloading information from your mobile device to the desktop computer. Please disconnect and reconnect the device to Activesync to fix the problem." Subsequent attempts to sync then fail w/o error message.

4. Throughout each of the steps, I have checked Activesync settings under Tools>Options and noticed each time that Vehicle Manager is listed, but has no check box next to it to allow it to be selected.

Hope this helps troubleshoot the problem. Please help! :)

I did everything exactly as teladog01 with the exact same results for my Blackjack.

Wow, you did a lot. Guys, I installed and uninstalled VM a hundred or more times on multiple device types when testing and never encountered this. Now, that's not to say you're doing something wrong. I guess I was just lucky.

Please try reversing your sequence of installation.

1. First uninstall from both platforms again.
2. Then on the PC, go to C:\Program Files\iambic Software and delete the VM folder.
3. Now, reinstall on the device first using either WM .exe or the CAB
4. Now launch VM on the device...create DB or open existing one
5. Menu>Exit in VM on the device
6. Reinstall the PC version, with device connected to Active Sync
7. Now try syncing again

Michael,
I did everything as you suggested and I still have the same problem. Not syncing and I get the VM icon in activesync tools options, without the ability to do anything with it.
Has anyone got this working on a Blackjack?
Thanks for your help, I do appreciate it.

I just tried these steps and I got the same error popup on the first attempted sync with the title of "Vehicle Manager Synchronization Error" and the message is "Error while downloading information from your mobile device to the desktop computer. Please disconnect and reconnect the device to Activesync to fix the problem." After disconnecting and reconnecting, it's back to no syncing and no error message either.

Also, checking the Activesync settings under Tools>Options, I still notice that Vehicle Manager is listed, but has no check box next to it to allow it to be selected.

Is there a log file somewhere that could be checked for the reason for the error message on the first attempted sync?

Thanks for your help...

Has anyone tried restarting their pc to see if it makes any difference?

Has anyone tried restarting their pc to see if it makes any difference?

Absolutely. After each uninstall I rebooted the computer as well as the phone. Any other ideas. There are multiple threads with issues with the new version not syncing. It is especially frustrating because the new version has corrupted the perfectly good desktop/mobile relationship that was working in the previous version. It would really be great to get a fix soon :)

I asked before...is there any log file or anything we can take a look at to see what that error message means?

We've discovered that this is a chronic isssue with the Smartphone edition, not the PPC edition. We're working on it.

I am anxiously waiting to hear if there is any progress. My trial version is about to expire and I am considering purchasing or looking for a similar program elsewhere. Please give us an update, I like the product a lot and I want to purchase it, but I really need the sync to work.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

sorry for the delay -- found the cause.

Apparently all the wm smartphones (with the exception of the Q) require the application and related sync components to be Mobile2Market certified by Microsoft, otherwise the security settings on the device will prevent the active sync provider to start.

We are in the process of getting Vehicle Manager certified.

OK I purchased the VM product for WM5 and desktop. I like the product enough to wait for the fix.

I hope it's just going to take a few days -- product certification is always lots of fun.

I got it to work on my 2125. I don't know if it would be the same on the Blackjack, but it's possible since both are WM5.

Essentially the problem seems to be how much Windows has the system locked down. Here's where I found the info for my 2125. http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=235408

once I unlocked the applications, I reinstalled the smartphone version. the next time I synced, the Vehicle Manager icon in Active Sync was no longer grayed out. I was able to check the box and it immediately sync'ed my phone and pulled the My Vehicles.dat file to the phone.

hopefully this helps. it was pretty simple really. here's a quick summary of the steps:

1. uninstall VM from device
2. install Registry editor to device
3. "Application Unlock" device via Registry edits
4. Reboot device
5. Install VM on device.
6. Sync device
7. Check VM option in ActiveSync

The device should automatically re-sync and pull the My Vehicles.dat file from your PC.

Thanks for that, but I tried changing these regkeys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies (then press "values")\ 00001001 = 2 -->Change the value data from 2 to 1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 1005 = 16 --> Change the value data from 16 to 40

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 1017 = 128 --> Change the value data from 128 to 144

and when I tried to modify the key, it errors saying Unable to perform that operation. Is there another registry editor that I can use?

I'm not sure about another regedit software. I used the one from that site, and it worked fine for me.

although, i just did a little searching on the Blackjack and apparently it may come with the applications unlocked already. i also saw a few mentions of not being able to save reg edits.

sorry i can't help you out more. this worked well with the 2125.

you might try posting a question on that forum. there's a blackjack forum. http://www.modaco.com/Samsung-i607-i607MoDaCocom-f287.html

I finally got it working! :)
This is what I did.
I downloaded and installed this phone unlock for blackjack:
http://www.motosmartzone.com/inventory/software/a6/appunlock.cab
Uninstalled VM on my Blackjack
Reinstalled VM on BJ.
Ran Activesync but there was no change.
Stopped and restarted active sync.
Plugged in device and bingo, it worked.
I can now select the VM icon in my Activesync list.

I ran through all the steps with no change. There is still no checkbox next to VM in the Options menu.

Hi All,

sorry for the long delay on this -- the process of obtaining Microsoft's and Verisign's approval to access privileged APIs on smartphones has been quite lenghty.

The good news is that the process is now over, and we just refreshed the downloads for Vehicle Manager for Windows Mobile Smartphone Edition.

1- Visit http://www.iambic.com/upgrade/ to access your downloads page
2- download Vehicle Manager for Windows Mobile Smartphone (don't worry if you see the same version number you already have -- we didn't change it)
3- install it on your smartphone over the version you already have
4- sync

If you don't see the active sync provider right away on first sync, visit menu -> options and enable "Vehicle Manager" (this time the checkbox should be available for you to click on it).

Let us know if you run into troubles following what above. If the feedback we receive here is positive we'll notify all the VMSM owners of the availability of the fix.

Thanks,

- Adriano
