I will first explain how I use propel and then request the feature I would like.

There are several applications that I use most often and I have selected them as favorites and have turned on the favorite function.

I use the Power User view and launch those items or type a contact name to dial or send E-mail etc.

I also have unchecked "Show all favourites in all views" under the display contents preferences. .... I only want the favorites in the Power User view and maybe the apps view. However, when I go to the Music view, I get a message that says, "No favourites are currently selected".

What I would like is to have all the filenames to appear under the music view as if the favourite function was turned off.

In other words, I would like each view to have the option of having favourites turned on or off without having to turn on or off the favorites for all the views.

I understand your request, but I'm not sure about having favourites as a per/view option.
seems to me that it would add more complexity than value.

if other folks would like to see this - please do chime in.

btw - not what you want, but you can stop the 'no favourites' message by turning off tips in preferences/display/contents

Ok, maybe you can help me understand the purpose of favorites.

If I have a decent number of music files (although ptunes doesn't support m3u being launched with propel) then in order for them to appear in my music view, I have to mark them as favorites. However, If I do that, then I can potentially have a huge number of favorites and that kind of kills the purpose of favorites.

The only way I can figure out to be able to view 30 m3u files and 100 music files without labeling them as favorites in the music view is to turn the favorites on and off every time I go to the music view....and that it a pain.

Maybe you can tell me how you use favorites and large music files that you can't type the name to launch since you don't know the names.

Thanks

the idea of favourites is to select the 5-7 things you use the most.
when you launch propel, they will be instantly visible and you can tap to launch.

for everything else, either
1) type to search - assuming you know the name of what you are looking for (normally true)
2) turn off favourites and scroll through the list
or
3) type something like ptn and launch pocket tunes, then do stuff from there

if this style doesn't suit you, you might be happier without favourites. I personally don't use favourites - I just type 2 or three letters (I use smart search) to get what I want.

incedentally, I'll use propel to launch the odd track when I want to play a specific track, but when I'm doing more general listening, I'll just open pTunes which is more specialised in music.

It seems that you have developed a neat little program. However, it doesn't seem to be designed to help the power user.

I use the power user view, because I want to be able to launch anything from one screen. However, when I type ptn, I get 133 icons choices. When I type ptns, it narrows it down to 32. Even when I type ptunes, I get four choices with ptunes being the last choice.
I have 2563 contacts and 6510 files on my SD card...yes I'm a power user.
Do I know the names of all my files? Of course not..I have 1249 songs..of course I don't have them all memorized. Do I want to launch my favorites by typing the entire name? Of course not...that is too much work and even then it doesn't narrow it down enough.
I want the 7-10 programs I use to be favorites and then be able to scroll to access my other views where the filenames are listed.
I also want to use my treo with one hand...without the stylus. For me to turn off the favorites with one hands takes pushing a button 11 times...that's way too much. For me to turn on the favorites with one hand, would take (well based on the 2563 contacts plus 6510 files at four icons per row) 2278 pushes of a button....well that is just ludricrous...which means that I can't turn on the favorites with one hand...I have to use the stylus. Sure I can go to a view with a smaller number of icons, but even that would be close to about 50 pushes of a button.

Now, I can't speak for other power users, if you want your program to be robust and to meet the needs of users with huge amounts of files and contacts, something should be done about this. It seems to me that connecting the favorities with a view would be the easiest way of doing this. That way I can easily change the view with the press of one button and scroll for the files I need.

By the way...I think propel is a great little program that is very useful and has a lot of potential.

>> wow. That is pushing things! Just to confirm - you do have smart search turned on right? That will give you the best possible searching.

Do I know the names of all my files? Of course not..I have 1249 songs..of course I don't have them all memorized. Do I want to launch my favorites by typing the entire name? Of course not...that is too much work and even then it doesn't narrow it down enough.
>>If I was you, I think I'd deselect music files from the power user view just to keep that more manageable. Sounds like ptunes will be a better music launcher for you as you can use directories/artists/etc. Propel is relitavely simplistic for music.

>>menu then f - 2 keypresses!

>>even to use the 5 way, it is only 5 presses (up to escape the list, down, left left, centre)

>>I do think you are an unusual case here. Folks might correct me, but you have a huge number of files on your sd card and a large number of contacts. I think that merits seperating things into views a bit.

It seems to me that connecting the favorities with a view would be the easiest way of doing this. That way I can easily change the view with the press of one button and scroll for the files I need.
>>you can connect the favourites to the view (menu/preferences/display contents/deselect 'show all favourites in all views'). If you deselect music files from power user view, then your music will only show in the music view, your apps in the apps view. Yes, favourites will be on/off globally

By the way...I think propel is a great little program that is very useful and has a lot of potential.

>> glad you like it. I think it will even serve your huge list well, though it will take a bit of tweaking to make it right for you. e.g. you are the first user to whom I have suggested not having all content types showing in power user view. For you I'd suggest just apps, contacts and possibly bookmarks & memos if you use them.
