View Full Version : contacts problems

Though I love Agendus, I'm having three recurring problems related to contacts.
1. Though I've specified birthdays in contacts, the birthdays appear in the calendar (regardless of view) two days before. For example, I have two contacts listed with 15 June birthdays, but in the calendar those birthdays appear on 12 June. This is the case with several birthdays. I've tried a soft reset to see if this would help, but it doesn't.
2. When I am creating or editing contacts and attempt to use the delete button, characters are not deleted. If I continue to press the delete button, Agendus shuts down (steps: new meeting--enter phone number--try to delete characters--Agendus shuts down)
3. I've also had problems with creating meetings for repeated dates and the meetings appearing on the day before I specified (steps: new meeting--repeat--ok; meeting appears on, for example, the 11 March rather than the 12th as I specified).
Thanks in advance.

I will address these issues in the order you present them:
1) Yes, this is happening for me to... some birthdays are off by 5 days! This only seems to happen with birthdays that were already entered before this new build (118) and not for new ones.
I will send a report in.
2) I'm not able to reproduce this. Are you entering the phone number in the regular text box (where you would enter the details of the meeting) or someplace else? I have tried this with both meetings and contacts and I can delete characters without a problem.
3) I cannot reproduce this. I set a Meeting for March 3rd with a repeat for everyday. On all views that meeting starts on the 3rd (where it should) and all meeting are repeating as it should.
What Build and Device are you using?

Hi---
I'm using build 111. I've got no idea what this means or how to get a more recent build, if there is one, but this was what I got when I downloaded and paid for the program last week. I'm using a Qtek 9100.
2) I'm not able to reproduce this. Are you entering the phone number in the regular text box (where you would enter the details of the meeting) or someplace else? I have tried this with both meetings and contacts and I can delete characters without a problem.
This shut down happens when entering phone numbers in the mobile, home, or work fields.
3) I cannot reproduce this. I set a Meeting for March 3rd with a repeat for everyday. On all views that meeting starts on the 3rd (where it should) and all meeting are repeating as it should.
This error happens when I attempt to enter a repeated meeting for every other week. So far, no problems with events that recur every day.
Cheers,
ks

Ok, I will try again with those parameters.
The latest BETA build is 118 and it can be found here:

You may wish to try it as there have been various fixes since build 111.

I have tried to duplicate these problems with the same steps you mentioned above and I have not had any issues.
Can you please try build 118 and let me know if you still have these problems.
Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

Hi,
As suggested I've tried to install build 118. The first time, the device said it would need to uninstall the previous version. Then, it said this couldn't be done and the uninstall was unsuccessful. I thought perhaps this was b/c it was syncing at the same time. I tried again and quickly got the install unsuccessful message.
Help?

My last request for help with unsuccessful installation remains unanswered. I've just received the upgrade and am having the same issue. Must I uninstall Agendus from my mobile and start again? This would, of course, be a pain mostly because Agendus didn't sync correctly with either of my contacts programs (Apple Addressbook, Entourage) and I've had to go through and manually change the phone number fields.
Thanks in advance.

I stopped all the running programs, including Agendus, attempted to reinstall, same result (unsuccessful). I did notice that Agendus isn't listed when I bring up the programs window, only in the start menu.

I know it's probably a long shot, but does your device have enough memory to perform the installation?
Also, at what point in the installation does it give you an unsuccessful message? Does the progress bar reach a certain point and it stops?

I have 11.37MB storage and 17.55MB in memory free.
Upon installation, the progress bar on my computer completes, but there is no progress bar movement on my mobile.

Ok, that might be important to know :)
If you could be so kind to copy the Agendus CAB file into your device and try to install it by selecting that file from within you PPC, that might help you.
The cab file will be on the main Agendus for Window Download page and it is usually listed very close to the Windows installation file.
I want to rule out any problems between your computer and device.

I've now had the time to try installation this way and received the same message: that the program was not installed.
At what point should I uninstall the old Agendus and try to install the newest version? Is it possible that after I uninstall the old, that the new one won't install?
I appreciate the quick responses, but I've just about reached the end of my patience with the program. Though I don't like it as much Pocket Informant didn't give me these problems. That said, Agendus on my Palm was perfect!

Hi Kimberly,
I have some ideas for you on this. I would do a manual uninstall. You would connect via activesync, go to explore. Go to the place where you originally installed Agendus (it's the Iambic folder) it is either in your program files or if you didn't install it there, on your storage card. If you find this folder, delete it. Go to your windows folder on the device next still using the explore feature of active sync. In the windows folder to the top of the list you will see a folder called AppMgr. Go into that and delete any files that may say Iambic, Inc. Agendus Professional.
Next, have you ever used a registry editor on your pocket pc before? Let me know and I will walk you through the rest. Let's see if we can get this to work by taking it step by step.

Please don't tell me that you folks do not know about the "uninstall" bug in WM5? More prevalent in HTC Wizard models than others, but it affects all.
WM5's memory self-management module prevents apps from being removed. Any updates/upgrades must first uninstall previous version - you have no option to NOT do this. In some devices, clearing as much memory before trying to uninstall helps, but on HTC Wizard devices (Yes, the Q-Tec 9100 series is one), it fails every time. The ONLY way to upgrade a program is to manually delete all files - that includes DLLs in the Windows folder. Occasionally you even have to manually remove registry keys.
There is a workaround that can be built into the installer package - For example, Alex Kac of WebIS has done it - all WebOS apps manage to uninstall previous versions first. But most developers do not bother with a fix.

Thanks for the info, J-Mac. While it's definitely not what I want to hear, it's more informative than the last two weeks of back and forth.
I have no idea about messing about with registry keys and it sounds like more effort than I should have to go through to use a program. Very disappointing. This is why I usually use Mac-related projects---dll files. As if!

Hi Kimberly,
Don't worry, I was simply going to offer you clean the registry if wanted. That would have been totally up to you. Some people like a clean device.
A manual un-install is what I have suggested as J-Mac indicates in his direction to you as well.
@ J-Mac, Thanks again for your help. I am aware of the bug with Windows Mobile 5. :)

Sorry, I ment missing sync...I wish I had my husbands Mac. I am going to dig around to see what I can find. I know that the Error 50 is a significant problem. Probably can't but maybe you could try to rename the file and then delete? From what I see on the error code it has to do with mac not having permissions to certain files in WM.

I renamed the file, but still got the same error code. Even tried renaming files within it (AgendusPro.exe and log). I gave deleting from the mobile one last go and was told there's a sharing violation (though the device isn't connected to the computer) and access is denied.
Now it's just being stubborn...

Yep, we need a utility to unlock that puppy. If it were windows we could use unlocker but I am out of ideas. I will keep searching. The only other thing is the hard reset but I am sure you would really like to avoid that. Seems like we should find a way to do this...at least I would hope so.
Maybe someone has the fix...hopefully others will chime in.

Wait...
One crazy idea I have is using bitwiping. I wonder if you could install Airscanner's Encrypter and bitwipe that file? http://www.airscanner.com/downloads/encrypter/encrypter.html You can use the OTA installer.

Is there a reason why you aren't deleting the file(s) directly from your device?
If you have Resco Explorer (or the demo), you should be able to delete the file easily. You could also try the built-in explorer, but I think it's quite poor and lacks any real power.
From Resco Explorer, you can also set (or disable) the file to read-only, hidden, system, etc. Try to disable those boxes of the files you are trying to delete and try again.
I suspect that if you are having problems removing these files manually, this could be one reason why the installation (or uninstallation) is also giving you problems.
Also, you could try booting your device in "safe mode", which is something you will need a third party software to achieve (like Spb Pocket Plus 3.0, etc.). I'm sure the demos of these programs will help you to enter safe mode until the demo expires.
Safe mode will start your device with no running today plug-ins, "hacks",etc. and might make it easier to delete your file if another process is holding onto it.

Nancy,
I have never had a problem deleting files from any device I've used. Unless, of course, the files I am trying to delete are currently running. If she has not started Agendus that I am uncertain what files could be running.
I had not noticed, and I don't have my device at hand, but can Agendus be set to run automatically at startup? If so, that option must be deselected first and then a soft reset performed. If not, then one way to stop any Agendus files from running would be to use either Dinarsoft's MemMaid or S. K. Tools. First you would note which files are in the folder that will not allow itself to be deleted, and then use either of those applications to look at “running processes”. It is likely you will see something in “running processes” that matches one of the files in the folder you cannot delete. Then stop that particular process and tried deleting again. It would be an excellent idea to make a backup of everything on your device before proceeding.
Of course it would also be nice if anyone on the developer team could chime in and tell us what running process could be holding shared files that would prevent Agendus files from being deleted.

Yeah, I thought about this too. Excellent suggestion. I don't have MemMaid loaded at the present, but I might just do that and see what I can see. I haven't always had the greatest luck with getting running processes to end. Every once in a while one just won't die. Certainly the native task manager is a joke compared to these third party tools.
I am wondering as well if Pocket Mechanic would be able to unistall programs that get stuck? I think MemMaid has an unistall feature too??? Wondering if users can just try unistalling from these means in the future. Dono.

Yeah, for some reason some of these devices are stinkers. I do have these problems like Kimberly.
I am weird though. I just hard reset and reinstall stuff because I have no patience:p
I keep a really slimmed down device though so hard reset isn't for everyone. If you have a lot of data and I could see how this wouldn't be for everyone. ;)

I had to hard reset my device last week after some of my wifi drivers mysteriously became corrupted and I could no longer connect to the internet as the driver failed to load. :bulb:
After the device was cleared, I used sprite backup to COMPLETELY restore my device... the wifi drivers work now (I guess Sprite doesn't replace system files) and there were next to no problems, so I don't have a problem with doing it - although I have so much data in my device that I prefer not to!

You had Agendus working at the start of this thread and you are saying that after installing the latest build that it won't even start now? :(
Does ANYTHING happen when you start Agendus (i.e. spinning 'beach ball', the name Agendus flash across the top of the screen, etc.)?
Are you able to upload your Agendus.log file to the forum? It can be found in your Agendus directory (where the Agendus.exe file is located).

Hi,
a few things here following-up on the uninstall issues reported here:
1- all our wm apps take care of uninstalling previous versions if found, before moving forward with the installation
2- I do have an HTC wizard serie device (T-Mobile MDA) and so far didn't run into the problem mentioned here. Installed lots of stuff pretty flawlessy so far.
3- kspringer: not sure if it has been suggested already, but did you try to perform a soft reset before installing Agendus?
Thanks,
- Adriano
