View Full Version : Propel crashes Treo, claims corrupt app

I'd like to try Propel (mostly for the voice commands) but it keeps making my Treo 650 reset. I can't get any apps to populate the Apps view; and after the restart, I get the message:
"Warning It looks like there was a problem building the launch list. The problem was in:
Apps
Please check there for corruption, or contact the forum for help"
OK, I understand it doesn't like one of my apps. There aren't a lot of 3rd party ones, just Agendus Pro, Passwords Plus, Iambic Store (I'll try to delete that one), Missing Sync, and RealOne. I removed my SD card in case that was the culprit, no luck. I do not use my Treo for email or web surfing; I just have a regular phone account. So I'm contacting the forum for help. Any idea how to go about finding what it's choking on?
[Later] I read in another post about dialing #*377 after a reset. I did so, and got the message:
"A reset was caused on 3/15/07 at 11:35 am while running "Propel":
MemoryMgr.c,
Line:3822, Nil Ptr"
Does that mean anything to anybody?
Thanks

I do have similar problem. The story is like this. I was driving my motorcycle when it rained. when I got home, I saw that my treo 680 got little wet. I opened it from its hardcase and dried it up. I take off the battery and sd card for a while. After that, I put back wverything and started my treo. When it got into Propel, it said something like "DB error, bizzare error, quick list, bla..bla..". The message from #*377 is Propel: Fatal Exception. I tried warm reset and everything I know with no result. the same happened again. So I delete Propel and re-install it. Going well several hours but again something happened. So today I hard reset my treo 680 and will try install Propel again.

I have a similar but more circumscribed problem.
Whenever I try to start the Memo app from Propel, my Treo 700p resets. I can open a specific memo from power user, but you would think that Propel should work for at least the basic 4 apps.
Any ideas?

Hi,
the message here is interesting, I suspect it doesn't actually mean exactly what it says!
Propel saves a progress message as it builds the launch list so that if there is a crash, it can look at the progress and see how far it got.
this was intended for scanning the sd card which has been problematic before (you can corrupt the directory structure in an sd card and cause issues).
nonimally, this means that propel started scanning apps, then crashed.
my guess is that it got a little further - but that the progress message got wiped by the reset as it hadn't been written back to NVFS.
previously when people have had this issue, it has been a corrupted memo database.
could you try using this app:
http://www.hobbyistsoftware.com/Downloads/FixDatabases.prc
to rebuild your memo database.
let me know if that doesn't fix it.
thanks

if you get the error again, can you post it in full?
It doesn't sound like a Propel error - I'm wondering if some other app is building building some list in the background?
there is a possible Propel message which would go
bizarre problem opening: <dbName>
where dbname is one of Propel's internal databases. It would be bizarre for that to come up though!

Hi stan,
That is very odd. My guess is that there is actually a problem with the memo app. Does it crash when you launch it from the built in (application) launcher?
Propel doesn't really do anything unusual when launching an app, so I suspect that it isn't the launching that is significant.
let me know if the standard app launcher can launch the memo app ok.
thankd

It said something about quick list.
I've hard reset my treo 680 and re-install Propel. So far so good. But rarely still resets with Fatal Exception message from Reset Doctor.
Looking forward for new skins :)

I don't think anypropel error messages have quick list in them, so my guess is some other app is failing.
you can probably guess from what is on your treo what app is likely to be building a wuick list in the background...

Not full reviews yet I'm afraid. Couple of posts:
