View Full Version : Zones?

I have another question, regarding the "exercise" portion. Or, to be a little more specific the Optional section.

I don't understand what the zones are referring to. Do they mean upper body and lower body? What would the zone 3 be?

Will there ever be a way to add to the exercises like you can do with the food database? You already have quite an extensive list and I can't think of anything at the moment which wouldn't fall under one of your existing categories but I don't see any option to create a new exercise. That could be useful to have but I can imagine it being difficult to know what calculations to use to figure out the calories and fat being burned for something that you create yourself. (just a thought though!)

I'll try to answer these questions as best I can.

I agree that a custom exercise option would be nice, but in the meantime you can use "other activity" to enter similar data.

As far as the "Zones" go, I can only assume that this refers to your heart rate while exercising... so Zone 1 (60-75%) would mean you are exercising at 60-75% of your maximum heart rate and so on. I'm not a fitness buff, but I'm sure that is what the Zones represent in this case. :D

tlkramer, if you click on Menu, "Reports & Calculators" and then Target Heart Rate - you should be able to understand a bit more about "Zones"

Ah yes, I remember seeing that page earlier when I first started the trial. Now it makes more sense to me. Thank you!

Actually now that I'm on this screen again it brings up another point. It looks like you are allowed or even supposed to enter a unique number for the "resting rate" but when I do it doesn't seem to have any effect on any of the other numbers. Also when I select Done and then come back it's reset back to 72.

Yes, the resting heart rate value doesn't seem to 'stick'... I'll report this. ;)

I wanted to update the thread to let you guys know that the issue with the heart rate values not saving has been identified and the devs will be working to resolve this right away.

tlkramer, can you confirm that when you change the "resting rate" the "training zone" values DO NOT change. They should change based on the resting rate you enter.

I have just tested again and I'm sorry, I was wrong. It does adjust the range of heart rates in the two zones listed below the resting rate. I hadn't noticed before, because it does end up with nearly the same results unless you make a drastic change like 85 or 90 or something like that. I was also paying more attention to the "maximum" value thinking that IT would change so I didn't notice the zones changing as I was typing in a new figure.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up.

The maximum heart rate is usually calculated using your age as the main value and shouldn't change when you change your resting heart rate.
