View Full Version : Suggestions for Propel

I just downloaded and tried Propel yesterday. Being a longtime ZLauncher user, I think Propel is great! I just have a few suggestions for improving Propel:

1 - A place for the application version number and last modified date in the Application Info section.
2 - An integrated file manager
3 - When deleting applications, a choice of deleting the application only, its databases only, or the application with its databases
4 - A way to change the placement of the applications when viewing as a list
5 - The ability to make that icons smaller (zoom the icons) when viewing in icon mode

A lot of these ideas are from ZLauncher, but integrating them into Propel would make this launcher AWESOME! :)

Hi Jennifer - thanks for the suggestions. A few comments...

yesterday. Being a longtime ZLauncher user, I think Propel is great! I just have a few suggestions for improving Propel:
>glad you like it!

1 - A place for the application version number and last modified date in the Application Info section.
> good point.

2 - An integrated file manager
> this one doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Filez is excellent and free, and for more cash, you can buy Resco explorer (and there are others). Why would you want to bloat Propel with an integrated file manager that would do no more than these??? (serious question)

3 - When deleting applications, a choice of deleting the application only, its databases only, or the application with its databases
> why do you want to do this? don't you just want an app gone?

4 - A way to change the placement of the applications when viewing as a list
>can you elaborate? do you mean the ability to make a custom order of apps? You can pick your favourites and show these initiatlly in favourites mode.

5 - The ability to make that icons smaller (zoom the icons) when viewing in icon mode
> that is on its way!

A lot of these ideas are from ZLauncher, but integrating them into Propel would make this launcher AWESOME! :)
> this a toughie for me. Propel is not z-launcher. I try to offer things that z-launcher does not, and I don't try to copy features of z-launcher that don't make sense to me. Inevitably, z-launcher will offer things that propel does not. That's fine. They are different and some folks will prefer the (inferior ;) ) z-launcher!

Hi! First of all, is YOUR name Jennifer or are you calling me Jennifer. Actually my name is Shelly. :)

Now to your questions:
1 - Thanks for the acknowledgement.
2 - The file manager feature is not quite as important as some of the others I listed, but it is extremely helpful in ZLauncher to be able to manage my files right there. I have FileZ, but rarely used it with ZLauncher.
3 - I have had many occasions, especially while upgrading applications, when there was a problem overwriting an old application and I have needed to delete it. I still wanted to keep the settings and databases that came with the older application for the newer version to use. I was able to easily do this in ZLauncher.
4 - There are settings (again in ZLauncher) that allow me to move the entire column of apps over as far as I want on a screen. They also allow me to determine how long or how short I want the column to be. Being able to define the placement and size of the column allows me to be more flexible in the type of background image I use. I know that most people are probably not as picky as me, but for those of us who are more visually minded, this flexibility is greatly appreciated.
5 - Thanks for the update on the icon mode zooming.

Lastly, I know that Propel is not ZLauncher, but it doesn’t hurt to put out a wish list. I think that both programs are great and I will probably end up buying Propel for the flexibility it already has, it’s launching capabilities, and the voice launcher. I do have one question though. What is the real difference between Propel and Initiate?

Thanks for your responses and your interest. :)

Shelly, I agree with you! Thank you for saying that so well. About 2. It might be theoretical illogical to include a file manager in propel. However, it might not be practically illogical. I have propel and Filez. However, just like you, I never use Filez. I end up using the file manager in Zlauncher. In fact, the only thing I use Zlauncher now is for the file manager. Why? I don't like Filez and it's harder to access. I click on my button for Z-launcher and a popup menu appears that allows me to select the file manager. This happens no matter where I am. I also like the format of the file manager in Zlauncher.

I don't know if it's a preference or why, but the only thing that keeps me from going to propel completely is the File manager.

The other thing on my wishlist is to have favorites selected by view and not universally. I want favorites on PowerUser and only that.

Actually, while speaking of suggestions, I would like to see Propel include a Battery graph that will not only show the graph, but will predict the time left on the battery based on current usage.
