View Full Version : Can't Sync VM with Windows Vista
subterFUSE
July 5th, 2007, 02:28 PM
I recently purchsed VM for Smartphone & Windows Desktop. I use Windows Vista Ultimate.
I have the latest update for Windows Mobile Device Center.
I installed Vehicle Manager for Windows Desktop first. Then Installed it for the Smartphone. I can't sync the two, however.
In Windows Mobile Device Center, I am able to see Vehicle Manager as an option for Sync. I check the box for it, and save. My mobile device also shows Vehicle Manager as a check box in ActiveSync.
But for some reason, they won't sync.
I have performed 2 hard resets of my smartphone in attempts to fix the issue, but without success. can anyone help?

I have the same issue, and I noticed that in the Mobile Device Center, it shows an error "Vehicle Manager: attention required"

Installed the Verizon MP ver 1.22 on my 700wx and now I receive the same error. I tried to remove and re-install PVM k5 No Good. tried up dating the new Vehicle manager program still no good, also tried to enter my activation code to get new up date of VM would not take the full code number. now what!

Hi, folks,
We're hearing a little bit about this in support, too. Are you all using the Windows Mobile Device Center in Vista and trying to sync to Vehicle Manager for Windows?
Are any of you finding the "Attention Required" message clickable so that it leads to an error number?
We haven't been able to duplicate this yet.
Thanks,
Lamar

Hi, folks,
By the way, this is a poor workaround, but a purely manual way to sync the database back and forth is to use Windows Mobile Device Center -> File Management -> Browse the Contents of your Device to move the "My Vehicles.dat" database from the handheld to the PC's Documents folder and vice versa.

Hi Lamar,
FYI: I'm using Vista Home Premium and I haven't had any problems with VM syncing incorrectly or causing errors.
Does the error seem to be specific to certain Vista editions?

I'm syncing it to Vista Ultimate, and also not having problems. I'm collecting some sync logs now from folks. Hopefully, we'll find out what's going on for those for whom it's not working.

The support code may show up in the ActiveSync log on the device. (I've been reading blogs at Microsoft.) This may be located at Start -> Programs -> ActiveSync -> Menu -> Status -> View Support Code.
By the way, on my Smartphone, I have three non-checkable greyed-out boxes for Vehicle Manager on my PC, and it's still syncing.

I recetnly upgraded both my PC (from XP to Vista Home Premium) and my PPC (from Axim x51v to HTC Mogul WM6). Now I cannot sync my PC data to the HTC Mogul. The Windows Mobile Device Center returns an error that says PVM need attention. I have yet to see a solution posted here. If anyone knows of one that will help, then . . . . . HELP!!!!

Same issue here. Windows Vista Home Premium, SP1, all latest patches. Windows Smartphone (Samsung Blackjack II). When I try to enable it in Windows Mobile Device Center, it fails in the sync process, with an error box that says "Vehicle Manager Synchronization Error". The box says to disconnect and reconnect the device, but that has no effect. If I try to enable it again, it does exactly the same thing. Not very descriptive.
In my case, I'm a new customer, just installed both, but I have several other applications that are sync'ing properly.
Would really like a solution. Anyone had any luck?
Thanks!
Ned

Since the rest of this thread is several years old, we'll start all over.
Have you tried re-installing VM to your pc? I've had that twice, and re-installing VM and then rebooting my pc did the trick.

Add me to the list of people who can't sync VM with Vista. I just tried reinstalling and rebooting, and it didn't help. My laptop is running Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1, my mobile device is a T-Mobile Dash running Windows Mobile 5.2 if that helps.
I'm still in the trial period with this, and while it might be worth my while to buy the Smart Phone version, if I can't sync them, there's no point in getting the desktop version. Lamar's suggested workaround seems to work for copying the data file from the phone to the PC, but not the other way around. If I try to copy the data file from the PC to the phone I get the following error message: "Cannot copy My Vehicles.dat: The device has either stopped responding or been disconnected."

You have both the desktop and WM versions installed?
If you go into WDM, do you have an option of syncing VM?

I do have both versions installed. If by WDM, you mean the desktop version, there's no sync option in the program itself, but there is a VM checkbox under "Change content sync settings" from the device settings menu in the Windows Mobile Device Center. However checking that box seems to make no difference whatsoever. They still won't sync.

Checking that box should be all that's necessary. If everything else is syncing properly, I'm not sure why VM won't. Assuming you've reset your device and rebooted your computer and there's still no sync happening, I would submit a help ticket with Support and see if they can help you out.
(I have been using VM and syncing with 64 bit Vista for some time, so I know it does work.)

If I create a new vehicle, it will sync all the data to my mobile and visa versa. Say I go and change information such as the insurance etc, this information does not get synced to the other device.
I originally set up my vehicles, but did not have my odemeter readings. Today I updated the vehicle information such as insurance info, odometer readings etc on the pc, then tried to sync... The information did not get updated to the smartphone.
Next I created a whole new vehicle and made sure the data was all correct. When syncing, the vehicle was created on the smartphone with all the correct data. I then tried to change some of the data on the pc and sync with the mobile. The data did not change on the mobile.
Vehicle information such as gas, maintenance seems to be syncing ok.

That is really odd. I'm not sure why it would be doing that.
