It is frustrating to have the great AN capability of creating custom icons, only to be faced with an unattractive choice at each upgrade:
1) give up any new icons offered with the upgrade or 3rd party vendor's icon sets,
2) give up icons built up over time, or
3) re-enter custom icons, and reassign icons to events based on their new icon numbers.

Seems so obvious to write a little utility that allows importing icons from one file into another (so that current icon assignments are not affected). Probably easiest to implment on PC. But if done on Palm OS device, could allow identification of which icons are currently in use, selective deletion of unused icons and reassignment of icon numbers to events, and marking of icons in new file to be imported.

This would be a good third party opportunity for some of our icon makers here:

Please feel free to suggest to them.

Leaving the development of an Icon Utility to a 3rd party provider was "a brave decision" & we can now see that one of these suppliers has indeed created an early version of a Windows based icon editor - unfortunately they have created it for DATEBK 3/4!!! Oops.

Come on guys - I suggest that a Windows/Mac based Icon Editor allowing icons to be edited on the PC; moved around to change the order of display & allowing for the import of icons from 3rd party suppliers WITHOUT losing all current icons & links would provide you with significant competitive advantage.

Why you want to allow 3rd party suppliers to determine such a critical aspect of your product's appeal is beyond me!

Another way of getting by icon problems would be for Iambic to separate icon files into 2. In other words, there will be Iambic's default icon files and the second file where user can add/change/delete icons, etc. I made some custom icons back in 4.61 era, but I had to give them up as I moved up to 5....

My suggestion should be fairly easy to handle... Iambic's default icon file should take up certain block of Icon ID, then you can let users to create IDs outside that reserved block.
