I am trying to synch my contacts and other info to MS Outlook. When I try to synch I receive the error message:

"Cannot synchronize with the Outlook profile you are using, because a different profile was set up or the profile is password protected. Please open Outlook using the appropriate profile"

I have created another account and made it the 'default' account, but the error persists.

Any help would be appreciated. I am using my Moto Q (Windows mobile 5) smartphone and MS Outlook 2000.

I will add that I don't usually use Outlook at all, and am using it now purely to try and import my contacts (and other data) from my old Palm 111x (running Action Names) to my Agendus package on the Q.

I would suggest you go to the pc control panel settings and manage your profile settings via mail settings there. I would eliminate any that have passwords. OR You can set, I believe, Outlook to prompt you which profile to use. That may require eliminating a default. Sorry, my pc is dead so I can't give more specifics. Just do a google on " manage outlook profile".

Thanks: A Google search led me to this. (http://forums.cingular.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&message.id=4566) Deleting the profile on my device and starting Activesynch from scratch did the trick.

Now to have a go at synching the old Palm 111x to Outlook :)

Hi David,

Glad to hear you have it worked out. Thanks for sharing the link. No doubt it will be helpful to others too!

For the benefit of anyone else who might be doing this, I will add that I was not able to import my contacts (from Palm Desktop) into MS Outlook directly, as Outlook refused to import them (from several formats that should have worked)

As a workaround, I imported them into my web mail account, and then downloaded them afresh (in Outlook CSV format) at which point my attempts were successful (all the fields mapped correctly as well)

The last part of the exercise is to be able to import my 'Memos' (from Palm Desktop into my Motorola Q) I notice that neither WM 5 or Agendus has a distinct memo function, so I am looking at buying another App (I am thinking) unless there is another way....

Any suggestions appreciated. Something that will work with my old Palm software and my Motorola would be best :)

edit: I have since noticed that I am able to copy and paste my 'memos' from Palm desktop into the 'Notes' category of MS Outlook, although they don't seem to synch with my mobile device..... I have a folder called 'Notes' on my mobile device. Is it supposed to synch with the 'Notes' folder in MS Outlook?

Cheers

David

Notes is synked on a file level i Activesync.
Look in Your "My device" folder on Your desktop, they should be visible.
Viewing them inside Your device is easy, since the fileformat after being synked into the device is a WM native (with built in support)
Works for me on my Treo 750 anyway...

Hi David,

This is very helpful link as well. http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=PalmSupportKB,ts=Palm_External20 01,Case=obj(41224)

I will have to say I did the transfer via Chapura's product listed in the link content when I made the jump to Pocket PC. However, your notes should be syncing with your my documents folder at least. When you say you can copy and paste are you meaning that you create a note in outlook and paste the text into it and name it then save?

BTW, if you do a search of the WM forums here with the word "export", you will find all the posts related to your situation. ;)

BTW, if you do a search of the WM forums here with the word "export", you will find all the posts related to your situation. ;)Thanks: I found out (by experimentation) that if you open up a 'category' of 'memos' in Palm desktop, and then select and copy all the memos in that category, that you can (if you select the window in Outlook where you would create notes) 'Paste' them into the Outlook Window. When you do the 'paste' it opens up a new note. I thought at first that it was just the first note of all the memos I had selected and copied, but as I scrolled down, I realised that it had pasted all the notes in that palm desktop category into a single note (with a space between the individual entries) - I closed the note (by clicking in the top right corner of it) and all the notes were pasted into the Outlook Window (in a single note) which is fairly close to what I wanted to happen.

I then created a number of folders in the Outlook 'notes' section (one for each category on the palm desktop) and copied and pasted all the notes (one note for each category of notes in the palm) into Outlook in a matter of a minutes.

Currently all my old memos are in place (in Outlook) as 'notes'

The bad is that they are not synching to my Motorola Q.....

If I check what is synched (in MS ActiveSynch) it only mentions Email, contacts, calender, tasks, and favourites (no mention of notes at all)

Regardless:

Thanks for the info; I have enough info now to proceed further, if I am unable to get what I am trying to do to work

Can you go into AS settings on your desktop and select options and then tick notes from the list there?

Can you go into AS settings on your desktop and select options and then tick notes from the list there?I don't have 'notes' mentioned there at all Nancy, just email, contacts, calender, tasks, and favourites. There is an item not ticked called 'Media' with contacts and appointments mentioned under the main heading (but I don't think that could be it) I have not set 'Media' up yet, as it wants me to install a mini sd card first and I have not yet purchased.

But I am thinking that the reason 'Notes' are not mentioned, might be because I have a Motorola Q 'Smartphone' and not a Pocket PC - could that be the reason?

David,

Apparently you cannot sync outlook notes with a Q. How strange indeed, I must say. See here:

Thanks so much for your help Nancy. I should have located that link myself. The info provided will allow me to proceed (one way or another)
