View Full Version : Trip Traker and Thanksgiving 2007

First of all, I'm just soo happy Trip Tracker is finally being worked on and is close to being released. Please don't misinterpret this post as negative! However, as you probably know, Thanksgiving is the holiday where the most people travel during (at least in the USA), and indeed I have a trip scheduled to see family during the Thanksgiving week.

I don't want to rush development (and have a buggy release), but I am curious if Trip Tracker will be released before the Thanksgiving holiday season? It would sure help! Thanks!!

Thanks for the support brianchris! I can't promise anything, OK? I will try to get Santa Claus to respond with some little word to his good boys and girls. ;):haha:

We're now passed mid-November and yet there is still no sign of even a beta version of TripTracker - what's happening??

TripTracker 4.0 is obviously delayed  .

Are there any updates on the estimated release date, guys? At this rate, it's going to be a race between my new iPAQ 214 turning up (originally promised for end of October, but delayed with no real estimates being given), and TripTracker 4.0.

Hi,

I am sorry for the delay, but I have no time estimate. The developers have many requests like these each day on all of our titles. We cannot give exact dates. If estimates are made, it is with the understanding that all goes as planned. Factors that influence the rate of development can be- the many titles that are in development, resources and available manpower.

Development is actively doing the best they can.

The last few posts regarding development certainly sounded promising. It would help if you could clarify whether the issues are based on the TripTracker code or simply resource availability/priorities.

Thanks.

It would be helpful to know if the issues are a time/resource availability issue or if the problem is application/code related. It would help us users to set some expectations as far as time to resolution might be.

Thanks

Hi All,

first off, I totally understand your impatience, and I was truly hoping to get something TripTracker related in your hands to play during the long Thanksgiving weekend. Unfortunately due to the fact that many portions of the solution had to be changed in order to support Windows Mobile 5 and 6, things took longer than initially estimated.

Synchronization and data storage / manipulations are what dragged things a bit over the estimates, since they had to be pretty much built from scratch.

Anyway, I don't want to bore you with the technicalities, and timeline-wise things are looking rather bright for having TripTracker sometime between mid and end December.

- Adriano

Dear fellow sufferers,

it appears from the post that Windows Mobile 6 and 5 came quite surprisingly over the iambic development team sometime in last November, and that they also started building synchronization and data storage from scratch during this time. Is there a chance to have Trip Tracker before 2009?

Hi guys,
It is 15 months since the promised date. Please read the press release promises and subsequent EXCUSES. Then it was ONE YEAR before that the lazy company Twin Peaks promised an update. It's NONSENSE! They never even returned email requests or calls - typical Chicago snobbery. Of course I am pissed. I tossed a pocket PC that worked for the PROMISE of an update - now I am screwed. Glad though that Diet Tracker and Tip Calculators were their priority. It's a load.

I work for a technology company - we would be out of business if we took this approach.

This is my opinion. But - I would have fired these guys long ago. They blew it. This non-performance is unacceptable.

If you took a few minutes to review the historical responses to questions, etc provided by other members of the Iambic team to issues over the past few years, you would probably understand the caustic tone and impatience a little better.

Hi everyone,
TripTracker work is and has been underway. Other projects have required priority. Just know it's being worked on.

Finally found these forums and have been waiting for an update on TripTracker. Since it's now the end of December, is there an update on the estimated availability of product or beta?

Every software developer has a project plan - maybe you can at least share the target date (understanding that target dates can change)?

Thanks for any updates, trying to be patient.
Jeff

Great - that's good news.

Reading over past responses, it seems that developers are being pulled/distracted by other application requirements - perhaps a bit of the "squeeky wheel gets oiled" kinda thing.

Given that, what can WE do to make sure that your developers are and will remain focused on TripTracker?

Would a poll help? More (polite) complaints? Anything?

tnx

Unfortunately, manpower is limited. That is the challenge.

I see you are looking to hire somebody  - maybe you should consider bringing in an outside subcontractor in the mean time to help get caught up. That way you can get some work done (on TripTracker, of course) and you can "try before you buy" so to speak in regard to full time employment.

Unfortunately, those decisions are mine to make. ;) Let's hope help comes along.

Update here. TripTracker is in it's final stages of testing. You should see something in the next 2-3 weeks, unless something unforseen comes up.

re: trip tracker 4.0 wm5 version.

hi Michael! today is Feb 12th 2008.you said Jan 19th that it'd be ready (2-3 weeks) that means latest by 10-11 of Feb. when are we gonna get at least the beta? if not the complete package? I used it sooooo much! I'm still eager for the link to downlown TT 4.0 WM5.

Let's hope (for the umpteen time) that Iambic finally delivers the product before Feb is out if not by Feb 12. we've all been waiting a little too long to get it. rgds Martin Steven Law :weird::mad:

A couple of months ago, I posted to the effect that it seemed to be a race as to which of two delayed products (TripTracker and HP iPAQ 214) would be released first! At the time, indications were that the former would be - now, I'm not too sure!

iant54

Alas, TripTracker lost the race! I have my nice, new iPAQ 214, and am loading programs onto it - but no TripTracker :(

Hi everyone,
We're really close to having TripTracker 4 ready. Please see here (http://support.iambic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33072).

The sooner we get this part verified, the sooner we can release.

I must have misunderstood your definition of 'really close.' and in response to one of your previous posts something unforseen must have come up because you guys haven't met any of the dates you've given us by a long shot. It is quite disheartening to see us just get pushed off and ignored like we aren't important. How is this happening, you ask? While we have waited literaly years for 1 update to the program we use and love, other of your programs continue to get updated regularly. It gets very upsetting to log on to your website for an update and find no news, but proudly announced on the front page is some product update for something else. You have said that the delay on TripTracker is due to not enough manpower. Maybe you would do well to use some of the people that are very obviously working on other projects and put them to work on getting this release out! This isn't meant to be a mean post, but this is absolutely crazy. Lets start seeing some results here!

AMEN, FunnyComputerGuy! For over 18 months I have lurked on this site hoping that an update to TripTracker would be posted. There have been PLENTY of messages promising an update "coming soon" or "really close" or even a general timeline (i.e. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, in two weeks, etc.) It has become quite laughable. Instead we are treated to a steady march of programs like "BillRate" "EasyNotes" or "Vehicle Manager" which I suspect would not have near the user population as TripTracker! Come on Iambic - be honest with us on publication of the software. I have rebuffed the siren song of WorldMate, but with the recent "freebie" they are posting and the enhanced capabilities of Vista.

Quite disappointed!

I'd rather you guys be honest and say you aren't doing much on it, as it's not a priority.

By the way - I like how on your "about" page, you claim TripTracker is available for Windows Mobile phones. I'd like that version please...oh wait...doesn't exist.

TripTracker is now ready. Many thanks to Michael and Adriano who I have been watching work feverishly on it for months. Taking it over from TwinPeaks was no small feat. Thanks for taking it on!

- Special Notes

Owners of the discontinued version 3 of TripTracker will be notified via e-mail within the next few days with information on how to obtain their free upgrade to version 4.

The version for Windows Mobile Smartphone (and WM6 Std) is currently being worked on, and will be released in the coming weeks.

The application is currently available for download and purchase at www.iambic.com and we are in the process of listing it through our distribution partners' mobile and desktop software portals.

Just one thing - how will you identify the previous owners of TripTracker 3? I think that I got mine through iPAQ Choice (from a previous iPAQ - about three devices back), so I don't have any email from TwoPeaks.

Thanks from me as well. I know I have been one of your most outspoken critics, but I do admit I admire the tenacity you guys have shown while suffering the slings and arrows from us TT users. Now let's see how it works.
