View Full Version : Sync with Palm OS.

I am trialing Vehicle manager for windows and vehicle manager for Palm OS (new). Both softwares installed fine. I am having problems syncing. Basically, once I have a vehicle that is on both devices, when I make changes on my palm to a vehicle (my focus for example), a duplicate focus vehicle will appear in vehicle manager for windows and I get a bunch of sync errors. See below:

Vehicle Manager: Vehicle (1212599164): the object can't be created on the device
Vehicle Manager: Entry (48171285): the object can't be created on the device
Vehicle Manager: Entry (1055681926): the object can't be created on the device
Vehicle Manager: Entry (1963071445): the object can't be created on the device
Vehicle Manager: Entry (2397200552): the object can't be created on the device
Vehicle Manager: Entry (2669579162): the object can't be created on the device
Vehicle Manager: Entry (2775305103): the object can't be created on the device
Vehicle Manager: Entry (3577660134): the object can't be created on the device
Vehicle Manager: Entry (3819305736): the object can't be created on the device

So, if I were to make a edit on vehicle manager for windows for my focus, it duplicates the focus vehicle on my palm. The duplicate focus vehicle has all of the latest edits. Also, one of the duplicate focus vehicles and duplicated entries.

The conduit settings are set to "synchronize" and under the conflicts setting it is set to duplicate. BTW, what are considered conflicts? If I edit or add a record for my focus on my palm then sync, is that considered on conflict on the windows database side of vehicle manager? I guess I need some help here.

In the end, edits don't seem to sync to well and duplicate vehicles and entries in the vehicle log are made. Any idea what the problem is?

Please see this thread (http://support.iambic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33216) by the same thread name as the one you've just started.

Allibama,

Thanks for the reply. I saw that thread but the problems described there were not the same as my problems. However, I did pick up the issue about choosing to desktop to overwrite plam under conflicts.

When I made that change in the conduit to "desktop overwrites plam", things improved. However, there seems to be one entry which is corrupt or cannot be updated. See below.

Vehicle Manager: Entry (670261263): the object can't be created on the device

Is there anyway for me to findout what entry 670261263 is and delete it? It is a vehicle or a entry for a vehicle?

Since I have made the change to "desktop overwrites palm" under "if a conflict occurs" in the conduit setup, edits seem to sync OK now. I did a test and changes in the palm are updated on the desktop and desktop changes are made on the palm. So, I think if I can find which entry 670261263 is and delete it, I will be good.

Last item is the number of decimal places on cost of maintenance. On the desktop side, I would enter $19.01 Yet, on the palm side, I would get a cost sometimes that would read $19.010021? or something like that. How did .01 turn into .010021? I read in the thread you referenced a problem with significant digits on miles per gallon. But, this is really not the same issue. These extra numbers were never entered on the desktop yet have appeared in my palm.

Also, I forgot to mention the type of device I am using. I am using a Palm Treo 650 OS v.5.4.8

I just want to be sure about the stability of the product before I commit to buy and start entering a lot of data. It could be very painful if is gets all scrambled up or duplicated.

Thanks for the help.

sdoncov,

I've shared the same issue regarding the decimal places on the Palm application. If you read the responses in the thread that Alli posted in her reply, you'll see that the developers have made a note of it to correct.

You and I seem to be having many of the same experiences. I'm confident that it will get better - this is just newly released in Palm OS, but has been around quite a while in Windows formats.

Borrowing this thread for a related issue...

After a few weeks of use with no problems whatsoever, VM has suddenly created duplicates in both desktop and palm apps after a recent sync. Nothing was changed in the conduit related to VM. What might have caused this to happen?

Somewhere I recall Michael saying he'd been able to duplicate the duplicate issue (no, I'm not being redundant!) and that they are working on it.

Yes, the duplication issue was duplicated if records (even different ones) are modified on both platforms before a sync takes place. In the meantime if you can avoid this scenario, you shouldn't have the dupe problem until we can get it fixed.

Hi sdoncov,
Wanted to follow up here to see if you still have this experience with VM. Did you get it to work, or did you give up? I wanted to ask if you have a VehicleManager folder at the following location...

If using Palm Desktop 4.x:
C:Program Files\Palm (or PalmOne)\<hotsync username>

If using Palm Desktop 6.2:
C:\Users\<windows username>\Documents\Palm OS Desktop\<hotsync username>
