View Full Version : 7 years out of date?

I'm looking for a decent travel package for my HP IPAQ212.
So I downloaded a demo of Trip Tracker.
Not off to a good start when 'Air New Zealand' (who fly in and out of LAX daily) doesn't appear in the list of airlines.
The funny part is 'Ansett Australia Airlines' is on the list.
They went out of business in 2002..... that was 7 years ago!!!!!

Also, as someone else here has stated when I enter a lodging, the check out date ALWAYS defaults the last item on the list, after my return flight!!!
This in itself renders Trip Tracker useless.
Should not be out of beta until it's fixed.

The nice thing about TT is that you can add in all the airlines and hotels your heart desires. Having presets is a perk, and hardly a major feature of the program. Personally, I'd be happier if there were no presets, cause I will never use most of what's there. That being said, I've never heard of "Air New Zealand," so it's obviously a very personal issue.

I also noticed the time on the lodging, but wondered if anyone in the history of hostelry has ever had a specific time on their agenda for checkout? I'd actually rather it were an untimed appointment. Do you really need it to have a time? I'm thinking that would be a good suggestion. What do you think?

Yes I certainly want check out times and dates - correctly! I also do want an accurate and up to date database of airlines, cities, DST etc. I'm afraid that I have to agree with palmless - Trip Tracker does need updating and all the bugs and database problems resolved!

I will pass along the suggestions as to check out time. I suspect that everyone is on his own as far as the database goes. Especially the way airlines come and go in these hard economic times. If you use a nonlisted airline frequently, just add it to your personal db. You only have to do it once.

Your response on the database really indicates how little Iambic is interested in this product.

While it is useful to have a facility for users to add missing airlines etc. to the database, if Iambic is not also maintaining the database, every time there is an update to the product, any items added or corrected by the user will be lost. Furthermore, the DST errors cannot be solved by the user. Your competitors (eg Worldmate and Spb Traveler) put a lot of work in to maintain an accurate an up to date database to support their applications - I'm afraid that TripTracker will not be successful unless you compete with this level of service.

Your response also ignores the many bugs that you have not bothered to fix.

I actually use Worldmate and TT. They serve two totally different functions. I can export to WM from Outlook, but I cannot import to Outlook (worthless, IMNSVHO).

If you are also having this DST issue, please contact Support as I suggested to the OP. I have been unable to duplicate this issue. Beyond that, what are you classifying as a "bug?"

Hopefully the next time TT is updated, the databases will be updated. I would advise you begin a new thread listing specific arilines/hotels that you want included.

Hi Allie, Thanks for the reply.

I'm sure the nation of New Zealand would be thrilled to hear that!

The problem is the check-out DATE is not sticking. I want check-out to be the 28th Sept. It has listed the check-out date after I return from my holiday, no matter what I do I can't change it.
"Check out" my attached screen shots....

Ahhh - gotcha. The hotel checkout isn't seeing the international dateline being crossed. I suggested to our engineers that they give an option of setting the time for checkout, or at least defaulting the checkout to prior to homeward bound travel.

I don't know what it has to do with the dateline being crossed?
The check-out date I am trying to choose should be a week after the check-in date. Not 4 weeks after.
My Check-in date: 22nd Sept.
My Check-out date 28th Sept.
TripTracker listed check-out date: 23rd October... 4 weeks overdue!!!

If TT sees it like I do, it's no wonder. I'm looking at one month long trip. Hrmmmmm......

Yes that is correct. Am I missing something here?
I fly into the US on the 22nd Sept.
I fly out a month later on the 21st Oct.
Arriving home on the 23rd Oct.
In between those dates, I stay at one hotel for 7 nights, hire and return a car, still got other hotel bookings to go in, but haven't done so because of this date issue.
So pretty much should look like this:
Fly in LA 22nd Sept
Check in Hotel 22nd sept
(stay in LA for a week)
checkout hotel 28th sept
Hire car 28th sept
drive to Vegas
Check in Hotel 28th Sept
(Stay 3 nights)
check out hotel 2nd Oct
drive to wherever...
check in hotel...
check out hotel...
return car ...
etc.
fly home

Have I done something wrong in the way I'm using it?
I thought I would end up with a checklist in date order.

Gotcha now. No, looks like you have it set up properly. I'm not sure why it's doing that to you though. I'm looking at a trip I set up a month or two back that's coming up soon, and the checkout appears when it should. I wonder if it's the multiple lodging stay that's throwing it off?

If you use Worldmate, I am sure that you'll agree that they do a good job in maintainting an up to date, accurate and comprehensive database.

Several bugs have been reported since the last release - you have conveniently removed most of the forum threads detailing these bugs, however they include (to name a few):

Synchronization - you have never solved this satisfactorily. I do not use any other product that has the synchronisation problems that TT has.
Export to Excel - only works correctly with Excel 2007 - does not support previous versions without using a workaround
The DST bugs that have been reported recently
The checkout date reported in this thread
The issue of correctly recording train, ship, bus trips across different time zones I reported in another thread

There are also errors in the database - for example Nassau is shown as MAS, rather than NAS

When are you going to fix these and the other bugs that have been reported but never fixed? When are you going to update the product?

Paul

Hi Paul,

Please feel free to start a new thread where you list everything you hate about TT, instead of trying to hijack this thread where we are working with the OP.

The only threads that have every been removed from Iambic's forum are spam. Even your posts, no matter how derogatory, will remain forever.

As to when to expect an update on TT, we do not know. Our engineers do not give us dates or even timeframes.

I wonder if it's the multiple lodging stay that's throwing it off?

That is the first and only lodging I've put in.
I haven't put in others in because I was trying to sort this first lodging entry out.

The fact that it works fine for you but not for me.....
I wonder if it has a problem with the date format that I use?
dd/mm/yyyy is what I use in my part of the world.

Otherwise I can't think of any difference.

Thought I'd change my system regional settings to US, didn't make any difference.
dunno where to go from here??

I'm still a relative n00b with TT. Only used it on 2 trips so far, and no issues (although the trips are both in the future). You might want to go ahead and submit a trouble ticket (link in my sig).

I have submitted a trouble ticket, to quote the response....

"We are aware of this issue and it is on our list to fix in a future version."

Maybe it's just me but that seems like a fairly major flaw in the program and I can't see how you could ask money for something that is not functioning properly?
I fly out in september, will TripTracker be coming with me???? mmmm we'll see.

Are you considering to make TripTracker an App for the iPhone? If so, what is the expected release date?

I'm not sure if this is something that's on the drawing board or not. Certainly no hint as to possible release date at this time.
