View Full Version : New time entries

I'm just getting started with AllTime. Is there an easier way to create a new time entry than by tapping new and entering client, project, activity, etc?

I want to log my daily time spent on an ongoing project, and so the client, project, and activity are typically the same each time. It is tedious to reenter this for each new time entry, and even tapping the diamonds to pop up the lists is just too many taps.

Other software that I have seen allows you to base a new entry on a previous one.

Any tips?

When viewing the list of items in All Time, tap and hold on the individual row that you would like to copy. A pop up menu will appear, select 'duplicate' and the row will be copied.

If you then open the item, scroll the duration to 0 by selecting the second digit (hours) and scrolling down (the number may actually go past 0 to something like 99:59), then start the timer, the day and time will automatically switch to the current date and time. If you need to, you can then select an earlier start time, and the appropriate duration will be calculated.

HTH,

Todd

Tap and hold? That's a new move to me! Works fine, thanks much for the tip. (This isn't in the manual)

Can I shorten the time required to "hold"? Three seconds seems like forever to me. (I guess I'm impatient)

Not that I'm aware of, but would be a good feature request.

Hello,

This is not a current feature of AllTime. I have added this as a suggestion to our Feature Request database so that our developers will be able to work on implementing that functionality in a future release of AllTime.

Thank you,

Until the tap and hold feature's time can be adjusted there is a slightly quicker way to duplicate a record by tapping on the item to be duplicated and using the command swipe (Graffitti area lower left to upper right) then pressing/writing 'y' immediately duplicates that record. This is documented by going through the menu options.

Thanks for the tips about duplicating time entries. They are helpful and I'm using them now.

But what I really need is an easier way to create a time entry that is based on a previous Client/Project/Activity. The currently available methods (i.e., using "New" or "Duplicate" as suggested.) all depart from the "Zen of Palm" design philosophy of minimizing the number of taps required for the most common functions.

So my request to AllTime designers is to make it easier for me handle the following common task: On Monday I create a new time entry for Client X, Project Y, and Activity Z. When I work on the same Client/Project/Activity the next day, it would be nice to have a way to create a new entry with the same Client/Project/Activity already entered, but with the *current* time/date.

Thanks,
John
