How do people use Activity vs Task ?

Tring to work out the best way to use the "activity" and "task" fields....
what some of uses have others put them to ?

I've been using Task for a specific job (eg develop online membership system) and then Activity for 'job roles' (eg ASP Coding, SQL Server Design, UI Development etc)

I use Task to define general categories of ... I don't know what word to use.

Task

Documentation
Meeting
Development
Research
etc.


Activity

Attendance
Editing
Planning
Review
etc.

You can think of the activities and tasks in terms of nested to-dos (mentioned in another thread).

Since timetracking is usually attached a project/client, it can be illustrated this way:

Project/client
--->Activity (ie. Web development)
--------->Task (ie. image resize)

At least that's how I break it down. :)
